Naar Thattekad

Best een goede nacht gehad.  Had natuurlijk wat slaap in te halen. 

Na een frisse douche, mijn spulletje bij elkaar gepakt, dat ging snel,  want ik had niet veel uitgepakt. Daarna lekker bakje koffie met de eigenaren van de Homestay gedronken, uitgecheckt en in een taxi naar Thattekad.

Het was ongeveer tweeëneenhalf uur rijden en toen kwam ik in het tentenkamp aan. Nu zijn dit geen gewone, maar super deluxe tenten, met zelfs airco, al zou die niet  super kunnen koelen want de buiten muren en dak zijn werk van tentdoek gemaakt. Maar ze zitten er echt geweldig uit.

Na enkele formaliteiten bij het inchecken,  mijn intrek genomen. Wat later geluncht, een heerlijk viscurry. Wat rondgelopen op het terrein.  Het is echt prachtig hier.

Daarna wat met het personeel gekletst, allemaal met onmogelijk te onthouden namen. Hier komen hoofdzakelijk vogelspotters. Volgens de manager blijven die meestal voor hun tent zitten met hun verrekijker op schoot en doen dan nog soms een birding trek. Wel ben ik op dit moment de enige hier.  Het is wel hoogseizoen,  maar het loopt dit jaar nog niet zo goed.  Dat zeiden ze in Cochin ook al. Dus ik krijg vast en zeker de VIP service.

Aan het einde van de middag met de kano de rivier op geweest. Dat was gelijk een lekkere workout voor de schouders.  Wel een aantal vogels kunnen spotten en een soort bos-hert met jong, die aan het drinken waren.

Vlak daarna begon het te regenen,  dus terug naar het kamp en nu even genieten van waar ik ben. Ik mag niet klagen.

De chef is begonnen mijn avond eten te maken.  Ik ben benieuwd....

Had a pretty good night. Obviously had to catch up on some sleep. After a fresh shower, I packed my things, which went quickly, because I hadn't unpacked much. Then I had a nice cup of coffee with the owners of the Homestay, checked out and took a taxi to Thattekad. It was about a two and a half hour drive and then I arrived at the tent camp. Now these are not ordinary tents, but super deluxe tents, even with air conditioning, although I think it would not be able to cool very well because the outside walls and roof are made of tent cloth. But the tents really look great!

After some formalities at check-in, I moved in. Had lunch a little later, a delicious fish curry. Afterwards I walked around the grounds a bit. It's really beautiful here. Then I chatted with the staff, all with names that were impossible to remember. They mentioned it's mainly bird watchers come here. According to the manager, they usually sit in front of their tent with their binoculars on their lap and sometimes do a birding trek, but mostly they just sit quietly.

I'm the only one here at the moment. It is high season, but things are not going so well with tourism in India this year. They already said that to me in Cochin as well.

So I will definitely get the VIP service.

At the end of the afternoon I took the kayak up the river. That was a nice workout for the shoulders as well. I was able to spot a number of birds and a kind of forest deer with a young one who were drinking. As soon as they spotted me, they ran off. Shortly after that it started raining, so back to camp and now just enjoying where I am. I can not complain.

The chef is starting to prepare my dinner soon.
